After his studies in Public Management (graduated 1985) and Philosophy at the Twente and Amsterdam Universities in the Netherlands, Hans-Jaap Moes started his career in 1983 in the Public Switching division of Philips as a HR-Project Manager. At that time Philips was merging with the American company AT&T telecommunications. This was an exciting time assisting the VP of Social Affairs, preparing the merger, communicating with the unions and support integration of two “old” multinational companies. New Human Resources Management and structure was needed in the Newco. named APT, nowadays known as Lucent Technologies.
After some intense years as HR manager in APT, Hans-Jaap established in 1987 Socrates Consulting. Among many other things he organized management programs in the Himalayas in Nepal. Socrates offered a broad range of HR-and Business services. The Socrates team counted 8 people when it was acquired by Deloitte & Touche in 1998.
The complete Socrates team integrated into the Deloitte organization. The team supported huge growth in the European Consulting organisation with many types of training and development. Hans-Jaap Moes became the European HR-Director for Deloitte and traveled around Europe and Americas, managing a team of 25 HR-professionals in 12 European countries. The ERP-business in Europe of Deloitte consulting grew from 450 people in 1997 to almost 3500 people in 2001.
In June 2001, Hans-Jaap resigned from Deloitte and took a sabbatical. Early 2002, he started new business within Socrates Consulting in the field of E-learning, developing and selling E-learning software and systems.
After a more than a year of hard work in the e-learningbusiness, Hans-Jaap was approached for a HR-Director position in Quest Software. April 1 2003, he started in the position of HR-director EMEA, (Europe, Middle East, Africa). Quest Europe increased revenues from 50 to 250 million dollars between 2003 and 2007. Headcount grew from 300 to 650. The HR-team grew from 4 to 14 people. Focus was on building the HR function, restructuring, growing the practices and support the mergers and acquisitions in Europe. In 2007, Hans-Jaap he was requested by Quest leadership to take the HR-director position in APJ (Asia/Australia/Japan) in addition to the European role. Focus was on building the APAC-J HRM-function (3 direct reports, 6 functional) and recruitment new staff, including a successor for the HR-director position in Singapore. He investigated opportunities for Quest software to offshore a shared Services Center to Poland.
In October 2008, Hans-Jaap left Quest software to explore new business-challenges and opportunities. He’s active as a consultant, project- and interim-manager and works under the umbrella of Socrates Consulting and the PPI Network; an international group of top-level trainers and consultants, http://theppinetwork.com/.
Among the many projects that keep him busy, the e-Learning for Kids Foundation is one of his most rewarding missions.
Among many capabilities, Hans-Jaap is a strong entrepreneur and international HR-expert. He’s fluent in English, German, Dutch and good in French. Before anything else he “gets things done”! He’s an inspiring manager for others amd a good communicator, he “brings people together”, is performance/output-focused, high energy and low maintenance. Through a mix of Business knowledge, intelligence, skills and international experience, he "makes it happen".
Hans-Jaap published about e-learning in Dutch magazines. Outside his professional activities, he's president of the board of a private school for Higher Education the "New School for information services", he is teamleader of his son's soccer team and more. He enjoys sports, music, opera and more. He’s an active skier and tennisplayer and loves outdoor activities like hiking and camping.
